Dungeons and Dragons
"The dragon's breath singes your cape as you dash down the narrow corridor, but miraculously you escape unharmed. A few more strides carry you out the exit of the dungeon and into the vast wilderness beyond. You hold your new prize high and the noonday sun glints off the blade of the great sword."
In Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) adventures players take the roles of elves, dwarves, halflings, or humans. They will wander through dark dungeons, encounter deadly traps, and battle ferocious dragons. Playing D&D is like writing a novel with each player contributing a part.

This is the first version of D&D I played. Note that the more well-known "Red Box" - 3rd edition of D&D Basic was published in 1983.

RoboRally
RoboRally is a competitive board game where each player controls a different robot in a race across a dangerous factory floor. Several goals (flags) are placed on the board before the start of the game, and players must navigate their robot to them in their numeric order.
After each movement phase, factory elements (such as conveyor belts and turntables) can cause Robots to be moved along or turned around. Robots fire lasers at other robots they can see in front of them, and damaged robots can malfunction causing current movement cards to become fixed in their movement sequence. Taking too much damage or falling off the board or into a pit will destroy a Robot entirely; requiring a 'reboot' from a Robot's last 'saved' position.
The first robot to claim all the goals (flags) in the correct order wins the race.
GAME TYPE: Competitive tactical board game.

The Settlers of Catan
The Settlers of Catan is a competitive resource production and trading game where players vie for control of an island. Starting with 2 settlements, players roll dice to randomly generate resources of various types (wheat, sheep, wood, rock and bricks) to spend on building roads settlements and cities to expand their colony with additional settlements and cities.
Settlements and Cities score victory points and increase a player's chance to collect resources. Robber-knights steal from your opponents on your behalf and hamper their local resource collection. The player with the Largest Army collects bonus victory points as does the player who builds the Longest continuous Road. Any player holding too many unspent resources in-hand when a 7 is rolled by anyone loses half of their resources to opportunistic freelance-Robbers.
Despite its competitive style, players in Settlers of Catan must usually trade resource cards with each other in order to win; so an uneasy truce between players is usually enjoyed for at least the first half of the game.
"Settlers is the canonical 'German-board game'; an elegant blend of random luck, bluffing, negotiation and resource management" - Mark Mc.
GAME TYPE: Competitive board game.

Small World
In Small World players vie for conquest and control of a world that is simply too small to accommodate them all.
Picking the right combination from the 14 different fantasy races and 20 unique special powers, players rush to expand their empires - often at the expense of weaker neighbors. Yet they must also know when to push their own over-extended civilization into decline and ride a new one to victory!
On each turn, you either use the multiple tiles of your chosen race (type of creatures) to occupy adjacent (normally) territories - possibly defeating weaker enemy races along the way, or you give up on your race letting it go "into decline". A race in decline is designated by flipping the tiles over to their black-and-white side.
At the end of your turn, you score one point (coin) for each territory your races occupy. You may have one active race and one race in decline on the board at the same time. Your occupation total can vary depend on the special abilities of your race and the territories they occupy. After the final round, the player with the most coins wins.
